![]() ![]() "Codec packs" are a thing of the past, best left for XP installations. Add that one single component (since it's not a "codec") and Windows 7 can then read MKV files with absolutely nothing else required - this includes the ability for Explorer to create thumbnails of the video content inside the MKV streams. The only requirement to make MKV files "natively readable" in Windows 7 is adding Haali's Media Splitter. ![]() In Windows 7, there's a native multiformat decoder which can handle roughly 98-99% of the video content out there - it can't handle Real Media encoded material, but practically everything else. ![]()
